GORDY TYLER TRILOGY
Author David D. Ferman prefers to write about familiar people, places, things and events. For example, the three murder mystery novels comprising the Gordy Tyler Trilogy are centered around three of Dave's favorite places in the world. 1986, Bad Moon Over Alpine unfolds high in the majestic Rocky Mountains of southern Colorado in the fall of 1986. 1988, Erin Go Kill erupts in the Republic of Ireland and Ulster (i.e., Northern Ireland) during the bloody "Irish Troubles" of 1988. 1990, Gordy's Folly is centered around the rugged beauty of the red rock region of Sedona, Arizona and the magnificent grandeur of the Grand Canyon. Dave knows those favorite places like the back of his hand. Author David D. Ferman prefers to write about familiar people, places, things and events. 1986, Bad Moon Over Alpine is an Amazon Four-Star murder mystery. This action-packed thriller is filled with adventure. casual wit, and sufficient plot twists to delight any murder mystery aficionado. Much of the charm and intrigue comes from the banter between the principle characters, particularly between Gordy and Police Chief Charlie Holoman who have been friends through thick and thin since junior high school. As U.S. Marines, they served together as boot camp drill instructors, a sniper/spotter team in Vietnam, then as newly commissioned officers during their second tour in Vietnam. Years later in 1986, they reunite to investigate six "accidents" which are possibly ongoing serial murders of young businessmen in the posh mountain ski resort of Alpine, Colorado.

The second murder mystery/thriller is an Amazon Five Star (the highest literature rank) murder mystery/thriller as well as a cult favorite. 1988, Erin Go Kill begins with an attempted murder of two U.S. NSA agents (Gordy Tyler and a beautiful lady agent from Ireland) posing as honeymooning American tourists. A vintage Mercedes Benz limousine is crammed into a too-narrow, too-long 16th century slum alley with only one tiny safe refuse. The subsequent murder of a deformed midget street vendor/CIA agent raises the mission-critical question: is that gory crime specifically targeted, or was that crime just random, collateral violence spilling over from the six war-torn counties of Ulster? If Gordy, the Irish agent and the crippled vendor were targeted, who is responsible and what do they want? The plot is shaded at several levels by the fog of internecine guerrilla warfare in Belfast, Northern Ireland (Ulster), and the picturesque villages along the border between Ulster and the Republic of Ireland.

Dave prefers to include fact-packed history within the structure of a murder mystery/thriller, which can make interesting reading. This includes insider views from both the ruling British authorities in Ulster and the opposing Irish Republican Army (IRA) guerrillas during Ireland's extended bout with the centuries old "Irish Troubles;" informal but too often unappreciated agreements between mortal enemies in the midst of that bloody urban guerilla warfare; and many comparative advantages and disadvantages of both sides of the IRA-Ulster political/ethnic fence.

Dave thoroughly enjoyed writing 1990, Gordy's Folly which gave him another opportunity to feature characters from his book 1988. These include Gordy Tyler (of course), Sean O'Neill of the IRA and the U.S. Marines, Sean's multi-talented wife Katie, as well as newcomer Priscilla Lopez-McDonald. Prissy is intriguing because even though she burglarized Gordy's townhome and injured him in the process, she believes that everyone should like her a lot even though she has no morals, no conscience, no shame, and no clue that she is not entitled to preferential treatment just because she is so darned good looking.

Prissy's loyalties ricochet back and forth between her Sicilian underworld overseers and Gordy's friends depending on who she believes has the upper hand at any given moment. In the turmoil of taking Prissy back to Arizona to identify the shadowy crooks who have threatened Gordy's life, Gordy's friend and neighbor, Dave Goldman and Gordy's loyal old dog are murdered. 1990 boils over at Havasu Falls a mile deep in the colorful Grand Canyon. Where better to sort-out a complex murder mystery/thriller as well as Gordy's star-crossed personal love life?

1990, Gordy's Folly is also an Amazon Five-Star murder mystery/ thriller.
